Three Corners Area, Utah

There's an area in the extreme northeastern part of the state the call the Three Corners. It's supposed to be some of the most desolate country in the state. After having already been to a few areas in Utah that are pretty desolate n there own right, I knew i wanted to check this out.

So, with Shirlyn in Salt Lake this weekend what better time to grab Harley and load up the truck and do some exploring. There was a slight chance i might of had to work this weekend so we got a late start saturday. Headed up over the Flaming Gorge dam and just before you cross the Wyoming state line turned left on Clay Basin road. The only map i had was a Utah backcountry map that is pretty detailed but i could not find a Wyoming map. So, once we got near the three corners area it was going to be kind of hit and miss as faras which road to take. To compound the mystery there are a lot of location roads in clay basin itself for oil and gas well locations.

About 10 miles off hwy 191 there is the little camp of clay Basin set up to service existng wells. I have been there before, further piqueing my interest of the area. Anyway once i got to Clay Basin camp i headed north out of there searching for any kind road, jeep trail, 4x trail that would take me further east. No luck.I turned around and headed back to camp. The main raod into Clay Basin does continue east from there but i was kind of thinking it only went to the John Jarvie Ranch which i was trying to avoid because it's a tourist spot. So i continued east on Clay basin rd.and much to mysurprise i come upon A sign that says tree corners rd.left! I made a left turn and drove until another rd branched off of it and decided to see where it went . You see that's what you do when you're driving around aimlessly.

Notice the road to the right in this picture, that's the road that forks off of three corners rd. It comes up from the bottom on the front side of the hill in the pic. There are a ton more pics on my picassa website. we drove up to the saddle and hiked up to this little peak and took in all the views.iked back down and drovr back down the mountain to three corners rd. Started heading north, dropped down into a little meadow. Once we got thhrough the meadow and started climbing again we entered the state of Wyoming. Continued to climb to another saddle where there was another road that branched off of it and what do you think i did? I took it of course. Heading east again it was getting time to start looking for a spot to set camp. Continued on down the road a bit further when i decided to head back. I had spotted a little bluff on the other side of the road and decided that it would be a good spot to spend the night.

On my way back i spotted these little critters. Started out just seeing two and when i got out to take pictures 4 more popped up out of the sage. think there was still 2-3 more laying down. Looks like it's hard to tell in this pic but these are some good size bucks. You should be able to see better on my picassa page, bigger picture. continued on driving to my camp spot for the night and set up camp.

Set up camp, ate took more pictures tried to figure out away i could get out of going to work for afew months, to no avail. I wanted to go deeper into this area but with the late start saturday and having to be to work on Monday i stayed on the friges of this area and could only imagine what awaits my next trip here.
